WALKING IN THE LIGHT– I JOHN 1 (Feb 18th)
GOD WANTS US TO BE _____________OF OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM— I John 1:1-4
I John 5:13- “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”  II Timothy 1:12, Titus 1:2 & Hebrews 11:1,6
The word “know” is the Greek word “Ginosko” which means to “know absolutely, to be fully aware and resolved.”  Do you have that “Blessed Assurance” in Jesus? It is not a hope so, but a know so. Theologians call it “Eternal Security”.  God is totally trustworthy and true & can be fully trusted!
GOD WANTS US TO ______________LIFE WITH HIM AND OTHERS.
I John 1:3- “We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you may also have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son,
Jesus Christ.” Psalm 89:15-16, Proverbs 3:5-6, and John 15:1-12
The Greek word for fellowship is “koinonia” which means “partnership, communion and participation.”  God greatly desires that we walk close to Him and others. If we are right with Him it will spill over into our relationships with other people. Am I walking humbly with God and others? Where do I need to include Him and others more?
GOD WANTS US TO __________HIM AS HE REALLY IS AND SIN FOR WHAT IT IS—
I John 1:5-10.  I John 1:5- “God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.”
God alone is absolutely pure and sinless. He has no dark side. God loves what is right and hates evil.
Isaiah 6:1-8 & I Peter 1:15-16, Proverbs 28:13 & James 5:16.  Christians still sin and need to confess and repent of our sin to keep our fellowship with God and others healthy.  Confess means “to say the same thing or to agree with.”  Because of the perfect sacrifice of Jesus we have complete forgiveness and a right standing with God.  In Heaven’s courtroom, God is the Judge, Satan is the Prosecuting attorney and Jesus is our defense attorney!

TAKING SERIOUS THINGS SERIOUSLY (Feb 10th)
TEXT: Matthew 5:21-32
DO I TAKE SIN SERIOUSLY? AM I WILLING TO TAKE DRASTIC MEASURES TO DEAL WITH IT?
What is Jesus really saying in Matthew 5:29-30?  Read Hebrews 12:1-2. Do we realize how sin hinders us and brings us into bondage?  Read Romans 6:1-14. God’s Word teaches us that we are now dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. How can we live in sin any longer? It is no longer our master!  Are we excusing sin or sincerely seeking to eradicate it?
THE BATTLEFIELD IS THE HEART & MIND—AM I TAKING EVERY THOUGHT CAPTIVE TO MAKE IT OBEDIENT TO CHRIST?
Proverbs 4:23- “Above all else, guard your heart for it isthe well spring of life.”
II Corinthians 10:3-5 & Philippians 4:8
John Piper said “Behind most wrong living is wrong thinking.”  Why is the mind and heart so crucial in daily battle? Do we really believe God can change our hearts?  See Psalm 51:10 & Ezekiel 36:26-27.
AM I HONORING MARRIAGE AS GOD DOES?
Hebrews 13:4- “Marriage should be honored by all and the marriage bed pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.”
See Matthew 5:31-32, 19:1-10 & Malachi 2:16
Why does divorce occur? Why does God hate it? Are divorced people doomed? Why has the church been on both extremes at times—either too light or too tough on it?  What can we do to put marriage in its proper place?  If you are married, are you cherishing your spouse and living a committed life? Do we give our spouse our very best or the leftovers in life?  If you are not currently married how are you living? Do you see the importance of purity? Can you wait on God’s gracious provision for you? How can we help divorced people pick up the pieces and move on to living a fruitful life again?

REJOICE, BUT REMEMBER! (Feb 11)
TEXT: Ecclesiastes 11:8-12:14
GOD WANTS US TO ___________________IN HIS GOODNESS.
Ecclesiastes 11:8— “However many years a man may live, let him enjoy them all.”
See Ecclesiastes 2:24-25, 9:9, 11:8-9, Psalm 16:11, 37:4, Proverbs 17:22, I Thessalonians 5:16 & I Timothy 6;17
Am I enjoying life or merely enduring life? The Declaration of Independence encourages us to pursue happiness and our gracious God encourages us to do the same!  Do I believe God is a cosmic killjoy and do I feel guilty for having a good time?
GOD WANTS US TO _____________________HIM IN ALL WE DO!
Ecclesiastes 12:1,6— “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth...Remember Him—before the silver cord is severed…”
Do I remember that He is God & I am not? Do I remember that life is fragile and I need to handle it with care?  Do I remember His holy & helpful presence is always with me? Do I remember His purpose for my life and am I faithfully playing my part in His great drama of life?  What part of my life do I have spiritual amnesia?
GOD WANTS US TO ___________________HIM HIGHLY AND TO REALIZE WE ARE
ACCOUNTABLE TO HIM FOR ALL OUR ACTIONS!
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14— “Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.  For God will bring every deed into judgment, including
every hidden thing, whether good or evil.”
Romans 14:12 & II Corinthians 5:9-10 & Revelation 20:11-15.
Do I treat the Lord with the utmost respect?  Do I realize my actions have eternal consequences? Will I hear Him say “Well done, good & faithful servant?  Live every day as you will wish you had when you stand before God!
ANSWERS:    REJOICE, REMEMBER, & RESPECT

THE LORD, THE LAW AND THE WAY TO LIFE (Jan 3rd)
TEXT: MATTHEW 5:17-20
1.    GOD IS THE _________________AND FRAMER OF THE LAW.
He created it and commanded it for our ultimate good—Deuteronomy 5-6
James 4:12- “There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy.”
In the Old Testament God gave the ceremonial law, the civil law, and the moral law (Ten Commandments) for the Jewish Nation to follow.  Both Old and New Testament talk about the ROYAL LAW REGARDING RELATIONSHIPS — Matthew 7:12 & James 2:8-13
2.     WE CANNOT SAVE OURSELVES BY _________________THE LAW
Galatians 2:16-21, 3:10-14, 19-25 & Isaiah 64:6.
James 2:10- “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.” See also Romans 7:12-13  The problem is not with the law—it is with us! The ultimate purpose of the law was to point out our sin and need of a Savior.
3.    CHRIST ALONE FAITHFULLY FOLLOWED AND FULLY_________________THE LAW FOR US!  Compare Matthew 5:17-18 with John 8:29, 46, 19:28-30.
Romans 8:3-4- “For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us…”  Jesus proclaimed the law of God, practiced it and provided a perfect sacrifice that fully satisfied God’s righteous and holy demands!  Am I trying to do what only Christ can do? Am I resting in, relying on, and rejoicing in the finished work of Christ?
4.    THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN _____________US FROM THE LAW OFSIN AND DEATH SO WE CAN FULLY FOLLOW OUR SAVIOR!
Romans 8:1-2- “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.”
See John 8:31-36, Galatians 5:16-26 and II Timothy 1:7  In Christ we are free indeed! Free to run! Free to dance! Free to live for Him! Outside of Christ we can do nothing. In Him all things are possible!
Outside of Christ we can do nothing. In Him all things are possible!

WHAT EVERY WORSHIPER SHOULD REMEMBER (Jan 4th)
TEXT: Ecclesiastes 5:1-7
1.   WE ARE TO WORSHIP ________________________NOT CASUALLY!
Ecclesiastes 5:1- “Guard your steps when you go to the
house of God.”
Isaiah 1:10-18, 58:13-14, Habakkuk 2:20, Malachi 1:6-14 & Matthew 21:12-13.
Do we realize we are standing on Holy Ground and are in the presence of absolute perfection and goodness when we gather to worship?  Do we respect God’s House and His holy day?
2.   WE ARE TO WORSHIP WITH A _____________SPIRIT READY TO LISTEN TO WHAT GOD
WILL SAY TO US!
Ecclesiastes 5:1b— “Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong.”
See Psalm 46:10, 85:8, Isaiah 30:15 & Hebrews 2:1-4.
Do I really believe that what God has to say is more important than anything we can ever say? Can we really listen to God if we are never silent? Am I truly paying attention when I worship or do I doodle and day dream? What will help me be a better listener?
3.  WE ARE TO WORSHIP WITH THE GOAL OF TOTAL __________________________.
Ecclesiastes 5:4— “When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow.”
Joshua 24:15, Matthew 11:28-30, Luke 9:23-24 & James 1:21-25.
-Am I going to be a doer of the Word and not just a hearer?
-Will my beliefs truly affect my daily behavior?
-Will I say what I mean and mean what I say?
-Will I commit to follow Christ no matter what?
-Will I serve Him faithfully and share Him with everyone I can?

-Will I commit to share the gospel with anyone and everyone I can so help me God?

ANSWERS:    CAREFULLY, CALM, & COMMITMENT

WHAT KIND OF EXAMPLE AM I? (Jan 27th)
TEXT: MATTHEW 5:13-16
1.  GOD CALLS CHRISTIANS TO BE THE SALT OF THE EARTH
      A. We are to be a helpful and ______________influence in a decaying and dying world!
Matthew 5:13- “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out
and trampled by men.”
Is my home, workplace, church, and community a better place because of my example and influence? We are either polluting or purifying our environment. We are either a help or a hindrance?
     B. We are to be a seasoning influence that makes others _______________ and thirst for Christ.  See Acts 2:42-47.  Do others crave Christ because of our commitment to Him?  God wants to take useless people and make them useful. Satan wants to take useful people and make them useless!
2.  GOD CALLS CHRISTIANS TO BE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD
      A. We are ______________to a world lost in sin and in need of direction.
Matthew 5:14-15- “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
Look up Philippians 2:14-16. Is the light of my life shining and pointing people to Christ? Am I hiding my light out of fear or shame?
    B. We give others direction by living ______________lives.
Matthew 5:16- “In the same way, let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
Just like the star of Bethlehem led to wise men to Jesus, even so our sincere godly lives should be others to the feet of Jesus!  Is any sin snuffing out the light of Christ? Am I shining brightly, or am I clouded by a complaining, critical spirit?
    C. Our ultimate goal in life is to ________________God in all we do!
I Corinthians 10:31- “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
Do our lives attract others to God’s greatness and goodness? Are we lifting Him up or drawing attention to ourselves?  Someone said “If you can explain what’s happening, God didn’t do it.
