BAD NEWS/GOOD NEWS! (Sat Feb 15th)
Text: Romans 3
1.      BAD NEWS- ALL HUMANITY IS TOTALLY _____________________& IN NEED OF SAVING!
·       Romans 3:10-12- “There is no one righteous, not even one. There is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away; all alike have become worthless. There is no one who does what is good, not even one.”
·       See Verses 13-18, 23, Mark 7:21-23 & Jeremiah 17:9
·       Notice how often words like no one, all or every are used in this chapter. We all are dominated by a fundamentally evil dynamic. By nature, we are dead in sin-Ephesians 2:1-3, blinded by Satan-II Corinthians 4:4, & held captive by sin-John 8:34, Romans 7:18-24.
·       History and the daily news all too sadly reveal the truth of this bad news!
2.      MORE BAD NEWS- THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WE CAN_______ON OUR OWN TO CHANGE OUR DIRE SITUATION!
·       Romans 5:6- “For while we were still helpless at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly.”
·       See John 3:1-8 & Titus 3:3-8
·       We can’t tame or train human nature. We don’t need more education or reformation, we need regeneration and transformation!
3.      GREATEST NEWS- JESUS CHRIST CAN ____________________US FROM ALL SIN- PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE!
·       I Timothy 1:15- “This saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners-and I am the worst of them.”
·       See Romans 3:21-28, Luke 19:10, & John 3:16-17.
·       God is willing to receive the devil’s castaways!
·       God is both merciful and just in saving us by the precious blood of Christ.
·       The words, propitiation or atoning sacrifice are the Greek word “Hilasterion” which means mercy seat. At the Cross of Christ, mercy triumphed over judgement! God’s wrath against sin was fully satisfied.
·       What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
ANSWERS: DEPRAVED, DO, & DELIVER.

JESUS OUR GREAT HIGH PRIEST (Sun Feb 16th)
TEXT: Hebrews 4-10
1.JESUS IS THE ONLY ________________BETWEEN GOD AND MAN
 See Hebrews 4:14- 5:10, 10:19-22
· I Tim 2:5— “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”
· Jesus Christ as the God-man, is only one able to bridge the huge gap between sinful people and a holy God!
· The Latin word for priest is “bridge builder.” His perfect sacrifice at the cross paid and paved the way for us to come to God. At the cross God’s wrath against sin was satisfied and His great love for mankind was demonstrated.
2. JESUS IS OUR __________________AND FAITHFUL HIGH PRIEST.
 See Hebrews 2:16-18
· Hebrews 4:15— “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.”
· He alone understands our trials & temptations because He faced every foe we do. He truly sympathizes with us!
· He totally understands our human condition having lived 33 years here on earth in the flesh.
· The Greek word for sympathize is “sumpatheo” which means to feel sympathy, compassion and to be touched with our pain.”
3. JESUS IS OUR ___________________HIGH PRIEST WHO NEVER FAILS IN HIS MINISTRY TO US AND FOR US!
· Hebrews 7:23-28, Luke 22:31-32 & I John 2:1-2
· Romans 8:34— “Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.”
· We have the greatest Person of power in the universe standing by us and constantly pleading and pulling for us!
· He is supernatural, sinless and totally sufficient to represent us. He is the Wonderful Counselor and best defense attorney in the universe!
· It is great that we pray for one another, but how much greater to have the 24/7 intercession of our Savior in our behalf.
ANSWERS: MEDIATOR, MERCIFUL, & MATCHLESS.

OUR JADED JUDGEMENT VERSUS GOD’S JUST JUDGEMENT (Sat Feb 1st) Text: Romans chapter 2
1.      OUR JADED JUDGEMENT IS OFTEN ______________________& INCORRECT.
·       Matthew 7:3-“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”
·       See Romans 2:1-5 and James 2:1-13.
·       We are often quick to see faults in others and are blind to our own blunders! We tend to be full of pride and prejudice. Do I have plankitis?
·       In our court systems, the Jury and Judges sometimes are misguided and make mistakes.
2.      GOD IS THE ONLY ___________________ & TRULY JUST JUDGE!
·       Genesis 18:25- “Will not the Judge of all the earth do what is right?”
·       See Romans 2:6-16, 14:10-13, & Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
·       God alone has all the facts and is truly fair and balanced. He is not partial in His judgement. He knows all our words, actions and attitudes, even our hidden motives-see I Corinthians 4:3-5 & Matthew 25:14-30.
·       How does knowing we are accountable to God Almighty make you feel? We must take our lives very seriously and make the most of every opportunity!
3.      GOD’S GOODNESS & ____________________SHOULD LEAD US TO REPENTANCE.
·       Romans 2:4-“Do you show contempt for the riches of His kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you toward repentance?”
·       See I Corinthians 3:11-15 & II Corinthians 5:14-21.
·       Our only hope before a Holy God is accepting Jesus Christ and His perfect righteousness which cost Him everything, but is absolutely free to us.
·       Do I take God’s goodness for granted, or does it motivate me to love and obey Him more fully?
·       Will I receive eternal rewards from the Lord or will I lose them? Salvation cannot be lost, but rewards can!
CLOSING CHALLENGE: May the prayer of Moses be our daily prayer- “Teach us to number our days aright that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12)
ANSWERS: PARTIAL, PERFECT & PATIENCE.

THE GREATEST INVITATION TO PRAYER! (Sun Feb 2nd)
TEXT: Hebrews 4:16— “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
1. WHEN WE PRAY, WE ARE INVITED TO TALK TO THE ____________________________KING OF THE UNIVERSE!
Revelation 15:3-4— “Great and marvelous are Your deeds, Lord God Almighty. Just and true are Your ways, King of the ages. Who will not fear You, O Lord, and bring glory to your name? For You alone are holy.”
See Psalm 145:3,13-18, Isaiah 57:15, 66:1-2
We are coming to the High and Holy One. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He is the most powerful and perfect person of all and yet He calls His throne a throne of mercy and grace!!!
We should approach Him with reverence, respect and with large requests. We should come to it seriously & submissively!
2. WE ARE ENCOURAGED TO COME to him WIth_______________________.
Ephesians 3:12— “In Him and through faith in Him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.”
See also Psalm 62:8, Hebrews 4:13-15, 10:19-22 and I Peter 5:7
We are coming to our loving Heavenly Father, our faithful High Priest and our friend who sticks closer than a brother!!
The price has been paid and the way has been paved so why don’t we come to Him more with boldness and confidence?
We can come just as we are, freely and with simple words. We can come with the full confidence of being truly heard. The Greek word for confidence means “without restraint.” We can tell the Lord everything that is on our heart! Oh what a friend we have in Jesus!!!
3. WE CAN COME TO him________________________________!
The verse could be translated “Let us keep coming to the throne of grace boldly so that we can find mercy and grace just in the nick of time.”
The King loves to spend time with His children! He loves to be sought — Matthew 7:7-11 & Luke 18:1-8, Romans 8:31-34 & Hebrews 11:6.
We are never a burden or a bother to the Lord!
Let us come to the throne when we are sinful, to find mercy.
Let us come to the throne when we are weak, to find help.
Let us come to the throne when we are tempted, to find grace.
ANSWERS: CONQUERING, CONFIDENCE, & CONSTANTLY.

WHAT GETS GOD REALLY ANGRY (Saturday Jan 25th)
TEXT: Romans 1:18-32
1.  GOD GETS ANGRY WHEN WE ______________________THE TRUTH ABOUT HIM.
·       Romans 1:18-“The wrath(Greek-abhorrence& indignation) of God is revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness.”
·       The word suppress in Greek means to hold down or resist. Every person has a general knowledge about God through Creation and conscience, yet we all have resisted those truths with our sin. SeeRomans 3:10-12, 23
·       What truths are you suppressing? God is loving, gracious and patient with sinners, but He is also Holy and just and hates sin! There is a Heaven, but there is also a Hell.
2.      GOD GETS ANGRY WHEN WE WORSHIP AND ______________________CREATED THINGS MORE THAN HIM.
·       Romans 1:25- “They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator-who is forever praised. Amen.”
·       See Exodus 20:1-17, Jonah 2:8, I John 5:21 & Jeremiah 2:13.
·       What Idols do I need to cast down in my life?
·       Who or what am I putting before God? Do I see how futile it is to have idols in my life?
3.      GOD GETS ANGRY WHEN WE ___________________________SPIRAL AWAY FROM HIM LEADING TO SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES.
·       See Romans 1:26-32.
·       Sin perverts our relationship with God and others. It causes perversion in our sex life, it leads to dis-ease, destructive habits and eventually death.
·       Praise God that there is a remedy- It is J-E-S-U-S!
·       See Romans 5:6-10, 20, 8:1-2.
ANSWERS:  SUPPRESS, SERVE, & STUBBORNLY.

KEYS TO STUDYING GOD’S WORD (Sun Jan 26th)
1.  STUDY WITH A SENSE OF _________________________________.
Psalm 119:18— “Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.”
Psalm 119:8-24,105,165, I Thessalonians 2:13 & Hebrews 4:12
What do I expect when I study God’s Word? Do I realize the power God releases when we humbly seek Him and His truth with great expectation?
2.  STUDY WITH THE GOAL OF _________________________________.
Communion with God and spending time with Him is the highest goal of Bible study.
Psalm 119:57-72, Luke 10:38-42 & John 5:38-40.
Is my goal to know about Him or to really know Him in a close & personal way? Do I view the Bible as God’s love letter to me? We need to view the study of Scripture and prayer as tools to enhance our love relationship with our Father, friend, Shepherd and King!
3. STUDY DEPENDING ON THE HOLY SPIRIT FOR_________________________________.
Psalm 119:25-40, Isaiah 55:8-10, I Corinthians 2:9-14 & John 16:13-15.
Who better than the Author of the Bible to help us understand it! Do we seek His help in a humble way? Do I realize how utterly dependent I am on Him to learn His high & holy ways?
4. STUDY USING THE METHODS OF _______________________________AND MEDITATION.
Psalm 119:97— “Oh how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long!”  Psalm 119:147-148, Joshua 1:8, Acts 17:11, & Timothy 3:15-17
Ask good investigative questions like: Who wrote this book? Who are the intended readers? Why was the letter originally written? What is the context & culture of the passage? What are the repeated words, themes or ideas in the book or passage of study?
Thomas Watson said “The heart is hard & the memory slippery, & without meditation all is lost; meditation imprints & fashions a truth in the mind. Without meditation the truths we know will never affect our hearts.”
5. THE MAIN GOAL OF BIBLE STUDY IS ______________________.
Psalm 119:161-176, John 8:31-32 & James 1:21-27
G– What do I learn about God and my relationship with Him?
O—What do I need to do in my relationships with others?
D– What sins to do I really need to deal with in my life?
Am I doer of the word or just a hearer only? There is great blessing in reading, remembering and reflecting on the Word of God, but the greatest blessings come into our lives when we allow its truth to set us free through our obedience!
ANSWERS:  ANTICIPATION, COMMUNICATION, ILLUMINATION, OBSERVATION, & APPLICATION.

THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH (Saturday Jan 18)
1. FAITH IN CHRIST ALONE SAVES US & BRINGS US INTO RIGHT ________________________WITH GOD (See Rom 3:22-28, 4:5, & Eph 2:8-9)
Romans 5:2- “Because of our faith, Christ has brought into this place of highest privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.” (NLT)
It is not faith in what we do, but faith in Christ and His great work!  We now have peace with God and a place of privilege before God!
2. FAITH STRENGTHENS & _______________________OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD
(See Romans 4:18-22, 5:3-5, 8:28-39)
Romans 1:17b— “The righteous shall live by faith.”
I John 4:4- “This is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.”
Faith enables us to endure trials and to escape temptations!  What is sustaining you?  Someone said, “Little faith will bring your soul to heaven, but great faith will bring heaven to your soul.”
3.   FAITH IS BUILT UPON THE _________________& THE HOLY
SCRIPTURES (See Romans 3:3, 4:21 & 10:11-13 & I Thessalonians 2:13)
Romans 10:17– “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (NKJV)
Our faith is only as good as the object of our faith. Are you trusting your feelings, friends or finances more than Christ and his unchanging Word? God’s Word fuels & feeds our faith!
4. FAITH IN CHRIST WILL NEVER LEAD TO _________________BUT WILL BRING GREAT GLORY TO HIS NAME. (See Hebrews 11:6, John 11:40, Ephesians 3:20-21)
Romans 10:11-12- “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame. For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him.”
George Mueller said “Faith does not operate in the real of the possible. There is no glory for God in that which is humanly possible. Faith begins where man’s power ends.”
Answers: Standing, Sustains, Savior, Shame

THE WORD OF GOD IS LIVING AND ACTIVE! (Sunday Jan 19th)
KEY VERSE:  Hebrews 4:12- “The Word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
1.  THE INFALLIBILITY OF THE BIBLE
II Timothy 3:16-17- “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
The Bible’s ______________is divinely inspired and therefore it is trustworthy and infallible.
Charles Spurgeon said- “The Bible must have been written by our Creator, for nobody but the Lord who created men could know so much about them. This volume reveals the secrets of all hearts. It unveils our private thoughts. If I did not believe in the infallibility of Scripture-the absolute infallibility of it from cover to cover, I would never enter this pulpit again!”
Psalm 119:138,140- “Your decrees are perfect; they are entirely worthy of our trust. Your promises have been thoroughly tested; that is why I love them so much.”
The Bible’s _______________________________is backed up by history and human experience.
I Kings 8:56- “Praise be to the Lord, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he has promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses.”
Matthew 5:18- Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.” Look up Luke 24:25-27,44-47.
The unity of Scripture, fulfilled prophecies, archeological discoveries, many ancient manuscripts and innumerable testimonies of transformed lives all point to a Book that is infallible and indestructible!
W.F. Albright the great Archeologist concluded “The Bible towers in content above all earlier religious literature.”
2.  THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BIBLE
It is how God ______________________to us.
Hebrews 1:1-2- “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days has spoken to us by his Son.” Look up Psalm 19.
It is the chief tool God uses to _________________people to Christ.
II Timothy 3:15- “From infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.” See Colossians 1:3-6.
Its transforming power can change the ____________________of God’s children.
John 8:31-32- “If you continue in my word, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” See I Peter 2:1-2, Psalm 119:28-32
It is the only reliable chart to keep the church and the Christian on ________________.
Psalm 119:105- “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” See II Timothy 2:14-19, 3:16-17.
Abraham Lincoln said, “This great book is the best gift God ever gave to man. But for it we could not know right from wrong.”
Answers:  Truth, Trustworthiness, Communicate, Convert, Character & Course
