TAME THAT TEMPER (Saturday March 23rd)  
1. ANGER GIVES THE DEVIL A LOT OF _____________TO DO HIS DIRTY WORK 
Ephesians 4:26-27- “In your anger do not sin; Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the Devil a foothold.”  Proverbs 29:22- “A hot tempered man commits many sins.”  The Greek word for foothold is “topos” which means “space, position, occupancy, home or an opportunity.”
Charles Spurgeon said, “I have no more right as a Christian to allow a bad temper to dwell in me that I have to allow the devil himself to dwell there.”
2. ANGER MAKES US ACT In a _______________________MANNER.
Proverbs 14:16-17- “A wise man fears the Lord and shuns evil, but a fool is hotheaded and reckless. A quick-tempered man does foolish things, and a crafty man is hated.”  Proverbs 25:28, 27:4, 29:6 & James 1:19.  How many things have you regretted & ruined because of anger?  The anger of man seldom works the righteousness of God!  People who fly into a rage always make a bad landing!                 
3. WE MUST LEARN TO ASK GOD THE _________________FOR OUR ANGER.
Genesis 4:6- “Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast?”  Do we really have a good reason to be angry?  Jonah 4, Ephesians 4:31, James 4:1-4, & Hebrews 12:15.
Am I allowing a bitter root to produce bitter fruit?  Am I getting enough rest? Eating right etc…Do I have unrealistic expectations? Am I angry because I am not getting my way? Am I holding on to anxiety instead of trusting God? 
4. WE MUST REMEMBER HOW PATIENT GOD IS WITH US AND FULLY _____________ON HIS HOLY SPIRIT!
Galatians 5:16— “Live by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.”
Psalm 103:8-12, Ephesians 4:30, 32, Galatians 2:20, 5:13-26.  The Holy Spirit was given to us to help us with our many weaknesses. He has the power to make us more like Christ, which definitely includes having more self-control. God’s grace is more than sufficient for us in dealing with taming our tempers.  Thomas Jefferson said, “When angry count to ten, if very angry count to a hundred!”

EXHORTATIONS FROM ESTHER (Sunday March 24th)
LESSON # 1— ___________________MORE THAN RICHES, MAKE HEALTHY HOMES, CHURCHES & COMMUNITIES. 
I Peter 2:17- “Show proper respect to everyone.”  Romans 12:10- “Honor one another above yourselves.”  Esther 1, Matthew 7:12 & Ephesians 5:21-33.  Many may not think respect is cool, but it is God’s golden rule.  The word “respect” means to value highly or treat as costly. The opposite is to despise or think lightly of. 
LESSON # 2— BEAUTY IS A BLESSING, BUT ___________________ALWAYS COUNTS! Esther 2-3
Proverbs 31:10, 30- “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”  I Samuel 16:7, Micah 6:8 & I Peter 3:1-7.  Our attitudes & actions will always speak louder than our looks! God looks deep within our hearts-what does He see?  Today in our culture it seems people would rather be a
character rather than have character. Character is who we really are!
LESSON # 3—AVAILABILITY IS A GOOD TRAIT, BUT IN THE EYES OF GOD_____________________MAKES ONE GREAT!
Esther 4:14- “And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this.”  Esther 4-8, Mark 16:15, Ezekiel 3:18, & Proverbs 24:11-12.  Responsibility is the ability to respond to real
needs by doing good deeds! Am I responsible or do I expect others to do it. Responsible people say, “If it is to be, it is up to me!”
LESSON # 4—MAN MAY SCHEME AND PLAN TO NO AVAIL, BUT GOD’S ____________________WILL ALWAYS PREVAIL!
Proverbs 19:21- “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”Cf. Romans 8:28-31.  The Book of Esther is the only book in the Bible that does not mention God in it, but His hand is seen all through it!  Am I playing my part well in HIS-STORY?  The more we trust the sovereignty of Heaven the less we will fear the calamities of earth.

ANSWERS: RESPECT, CHARACTER, RESPONSIBILITY & SOVEREIGNTY  

DEALING WITH DEPRESSION (Saturday March 16th) 
KEY VERSE: Proverbs 17:22— “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”
1. THE REALITY OF DEPRESSION
Research shows that the average person spends 3 out of 10 days trying to lift up out of a bad mood.
Even godly people like Elijah, David and Charles Spurgeon faced this _____________problem.
I Kings 19:1-8 & Psalm 38.  Charles Spurgeon— “There are dungeons beneath the castles of despair.”
2. THE REASONS FOR DEPRESSION
The main reason for depression is faulty _________________.  I Kings 19:1-4, 9-10, Proverbs 4:23 & II Corinthians 10:5.  Am I more in tune with my feelings rather than God’s truth?
Another reason for depression is being overly _____________.  I Kings 19:5-8.
Sometimes the best cure for depression is a good night’s sleep. Burnout often leads to being bummed out!
It could be a ___________of Satan.  John 10:10, Ephesians 6:10-18, I Peter 5:8
God wants to give us joy; Satan wants to steal that joy!!!
Not being ______________about our sin—-Psalm 51 & James 5:16
3. THE RIGHT WAY TO RESPOND TO DEPRESSION
First, we must remember our God is tender toward us at such times and __________to Him to restore our souls.  I Kings 19:9-16, Psalm 23 & 30
Second, we need to take better care of His _______________.  Mark 6:30-32, I Cor 6:19-20
Third, we need to learn to really be ___________________by the Truth found in God’s Word.
Romans 12:1-2, Psalm 119:18, 24-28.  Are we allowing the penetrating & liberating power of the Word to do what only it can do? See John 8:31-36
Finally, we need to learn to reach out and ____________others with a helping hand—Proverbs 11:25 & Acts 20:35.  THE HEART IS HAPPIEST WHEN IT BEATS FOR OTHERS!!!

Corrie ten Boom said, “If you look within, you will be depressed. If you look without, you will be distressed, but if you look to Jesus you will be at rest!”

LEARNING FROM SOLOMON TO ASK FOR WHAT IS BEST (Sunday March 17th) 
1. SOLOMON _______________________HIS NEED FOR WISDOM.  I Kings 3:1-8, Proverbs 3:5-7 & Isaiah 55:8-9
James 1:5— “If any of you lacks wisdom…”  The Greek word for lack here means “A shortfall, deficiency or scarcity.”  Man has education and knowledge-God alone possesses true wisdom. Wisdom is the special insight and discernment to know right from wrong and what is best over what is good!
Do I see how much I need God’s perspective?
2. SOLOMON ___________GOD FOR WISDOM OVER WEALTH!  I Kings 3:9-15, Matthew 7:11, James 4:2 & I John 5:14-15
James 1:5— “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”  The Greek word for ask here means to firmly request or even demand assistance to meet tangible needs done in a respectful way.  The tense is a command! God commands and encourages us to ask for wisdom. He is more willing to give than we are to ask!!!  Why don’t I ask more from my generous & gracious Father? 
3. SOLOMON WAS GIVEN ___________________WISDOM!
I Kings 4:29— “God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore.”  I Kings 3:16-28, 4:30-34, 10:1-9, 23-25 & II Timothy 1:7.  God is more than willing to give us special insight for living in every area of our lives!!!  What area of my life do I most need God’s wisdom?
4. SOLOMON DIDN’T ALWAYS ___________UPON HIS WISDOM!
James 4:17— “Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.”
I Kings 5:13-18, 11:1-6, Ecclesiastes 2.  Solomon often lived too much in extremes! He excessively taxed and overworked his people and lusted for foreign women!  Am I walking in a wise way? Where am I leaning too much on my own understanding?  Am I out of balance anywhere in my life?  Where am I not living up to what I know to be wise and good? Isaiah 9:6 & 33:6

I’VE GOT ALL I WANT! (Saturday March 9th)
TEXT: Philippians 4:10-23 
1. CONTENTMENT COMES THROUGH CHRIST’S PRESENCE AND _________________—Verses 10-13.  Psalm 23:1-“The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.”
Philippians 4:11,13- “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”  See Mark 8:34-36 & Hebrews 13:4-6.  Is the Lord enough for you? What more can you need than One who provides eternal salvation, security, significance, strength and serenity? Do you find yourself saying I will be content “if” or I will be content “when”?  The Greek word “content” means “satisfied, adequate, competent or sufficient.”
2. CONTENTMENT COMES WHEN I HAVE GOD’S ___________________________.
Matthew 6:33- “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you.”  I Timothy 6:6- “Godliness with contentment is great gain.”  Proverbs 3:9-10, 11:25-26 & II Corinthians 8:1-7.  Am I seeking godly character more than my earthly comfort?  Am I building God’s Kingdom or my earthly sand castles?  Do I seek to bless others in my attitude of giving? Do I believe Christ when He says it is more blessed to give than to receive? Am I laying up treasure in Heaven or just here on earth where moth and rust can destroy?  Matthew 6:19-21
3. CONTENTMENT COMES WHEN WE RELY ON GOD’S PROMISE OF ___________.  
Philippians 4:19- “My God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”
Psalm 34:9-10, 37:25, & 84:11.  He promises to meet our need not our greed!  Even the poorest in America have much more than many others in the world!
Bill Gothard said, “Contentment is realizing God has already provided everything we need for our present happiness.”

DAVID– A MAN AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART (Sunday March 10th) 
1. DAVID WAS ______________BY GOD NOT BECAUSE OF HIS APPEARANCE BUT DUE TO HIS ATTITUDE OF HEART.
I Samuel 16:1-13 & I Corinthians 1:26-30 & Jeremiah 9:23-24
I Samuel 16:7— “The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”  David was overlooked by everyone except the Lord! God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.  We too have been chosen by God to do great works– Ephesians 1:3-7, 2:8-10 & I Peter 2:9. How does it make you feel to know that you are chosen and called by God?  Why do we humans give so much attention to the things God isn’t as concerned about? 
2. DAVID WAS GIVEN THE GREATEST ________________ BY THE LORD.
I Samuel 13:13-14, II Chronicles 16:9 & John 4:23-24
Acts 13:22— “I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart: he will do everything I want him to do.”  How would the Lord describe me?
a. David __________________sought God’s face & favor.
Psalm 23, 25:4-8, 32:8-9, 48:14, Psalm 63.  What do I hunger for? Whose favor do I seek?
b. David faced many challenges with _________________.
I Samuel 17 & Psalm 27:1-3, 28:1-7, 34:1-8,18-19.  Where do I find my courage to face the Giants in my life?  Courage isn’t the absence of fear, it is the strength to face those fears head on because of God’s presence & protection.  Every Giant is small compared to the Lord of all!
c. David ________________God’s will for his life!
Acts 13:38— “When David served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep.”
Am I fulfilling what God created and called me to do? Am I going to finish strong? David established the kingdom of Israel, laid out the plans for the temple and his life continues to inspire people today!
II Timothy 4:7— “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.“
 ANSWERS: CHOSEN, COMPLIMENT, CONSISTENTLY, COURAGE & COMPLETED 
 
PEACE BEYOND UNDERSTANDING (Saturday March 2nd) 
Text: Philippians 4:1-9 
1.    PEACE WITH EACH _________________Verses 2-5
       Ephesians 4:2-3- “Be completely humble and gentle: be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the faith in the bond of peace.”  We will never know real peace if we don't learn how to keep the peace! Am I a peace maker or a peace breaker in my relationships?  The word “Gentle” means “Not being unduly rigorous, satisfied with less than one is due. It also implies being gracious.”  Do we see the need to accept one another, bear with one another, encourage one another, forgive one another and to honor one another? 
2.   PEACE WITH ______________Verses 6-7
      Philippians 4:6-7- “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”  Ours has been called the “Age of Anxiety.” Worry strangles our spiritual lives and causes our bodies to function in funky ways!  Worry puts a question mark where God has put a period!      
    WHY WORRY WHEN WE CAN PRAY?  Praying with a thankful heart is a truly transforming process. Try Thank You Therapy-it really works and it doesn’t cost a penny.
3.    PEACE WITH _________________________Verses 8-9
       Philippians 4:8-9- “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” 
John Piper said, “Behind most wrong living is wrong thinking.” WE ARE NOT AT THE MERCY OF OUR MINDS!!! We are to master our minds with the Person of God, the power of God and the magnificent promises of God-see Isaiah 26:3-4, Matthew 5:8, Proverbs 4:23, Romans 12:1-2 & II Corinthians 10:3-5.
