PRESSING ON TO PURSUE THE PRIZE! (Sat June 9th)
TEXT: Philippians 3:12-21
WE ARE TO LIVE WITH __________________Verses 12-14
Philippians 3:12- “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.”
Paul uses words like press on and straining to convey that the Christian life is one of great effort and endurance.  We are to be content with what we have but not with who we are—we are to passionately seek to know Christ and His resurrection power-see Ephesians 1:15-20.  We all live in the tension between what we have been and what we want to be! Don’t let the past define you—let it refine you!  Where do I need to make more effort in my walk with God?
WE ARE TO LIVE BY ___________________Verses 15-19
I Corinthians 11:1- “Follow my example as I follow the example of Christ.”
See Matthew 5:13-14, John 13 & Philippians 2:3-5, 14-16.  We are to be salt and light in a dismal and dark world.  Do others see Christ in the way we speak and act? We
are either stepping stones or stumbling blocks!  People would rather see a sermon than hear one!!!
WE ARE TO LIVE WITH _____________________Verses 20-21
Philippians 3:20-21- “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who by the power that enables him to bring everything under His control will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like His glorious body.”
Matthew 24, I John 3:1-2 & Revelation 21-22.  Do we live like our citizenship is in heaven? Are we seeking the things above more than the things here on earth? Do we realize what a fantastic future is ours in Christ? All of our sufferings will not compare with the glory that we will be revealed to and in us!  Are we watching, waiting and working for His return?
Answers: EFFORT, EXAMPLE & EXPECTATION

THE GOD–
THE REAL, RIGHTEOUS & REVIVING ONE!
TEXT: The Book of Habakkuk (Sun June 10th)
GOD IS REAL & WILLING TO ________________HIMSELF.
Habakkuk 1:1-2:4, Psalm 19:1-3, & II Timothy 3:15-17
Hebrews 1:1-2- “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in many various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son.”
God has revealed Himself through Creation, the Holy Scriptures, circumstances, but especially through His Son!  Am I receiving His revelation or rejecting it? Do I trust Him with my heart or do I try to understand Him more with my head?  Am I watching for Him and willing to wait for Him?
GOD IS ___________________& HOLY AND SHOULD BE TREATED WITH RESPECT AND REVERENCE.
Habakkuk 1:13- “Your eyes are too pure to look on evil: You cannot tolerate wrong.”
Habakkuk 2:20- “The Lord is in His holy temple: let all the earth be silent before Him.”
Isaiah 6:1-8, Hebrews 12:28-29 & Revelation 4.  God alone is perfectly Holy, righteous and true. He is light and in Him is no darkness at all.  Is my view of God biblically based or culturally influenced?  Do I realize my sin makes Him sick and sad? Can I be still in His holy and almighty presence and worship Him in spirit and truth?
GOD ALONE CAN _______________US AND BRING REJOICING INTO OUR LIVES.
Habakkuk 3:2- “Lord, I have heard of Your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O Lord. Renew them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath, remember mercy.”
Habakkuk 3:17-18- “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, ...Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.”
See Psalm 85:6 & I Thessalonians 5:16-18.  Where do I run for strength and renewal? Where do I run to satisfy my soul? Do I realize every day I have a choice to rejoice? Is the joy of the Lord my strength?
Pray daily that God would revive us again so that we would rejoice in Him more than in possessions, pleasures, people & popularity.

ANSWERS:  REVEAL, RIGHTEOUS & REVIVE

THE GOD WHO SHOULD BE TRUSTED NOT TESTED!
TEXT: THE BOOK OF NAHUM (Sat June 3rd)
1. GOD IS A ______________________GOD.  Nahum 1:2- “The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord takes vengeance and is filled with wrath.”
Our God is zealous for our love! He wants no other gods before him. He has a passion for his people and their purity.  Deuteronomy 4:24, James 4:4-6.  Do we realize that we are acting like an enemy to the Lord when we love the world and the things in it more than Him?  See I John 2:15-17.
2. GOD IS THE ONLY _____________JUDGE.  Read Nahum 1:3-8, 2:8-3:7.
God is not partial in His judgment—Romans 1:18 & 2:1-11.  God is the only perfect Judge—Genesis 18:25, Hebrews 4:13-16.  God is a very patient Judge.
Nahum 1:3- “The Lord is slow to anger and great in power; the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished.”
II Peter 3:9-10– The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.”
GOD’S JUDGMENT MAY DELAY, BUT IT WILL COME ONE DAY!
3.   GOD IS ALSO CALLED _______________, THE ONLY SAVIOR AND SHELTER IN THE TIME OF STORM!  Nahum 1:7- “The Lord is good, a refuge in the time of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him.”
See Romans 3:19-26, 5:6-10, & John 6:35, 8:12, 10:10. 14:6, 15:5.  Jesus is a friend to the friendless!  He is the hope for the hopeless. He offers matchless mercy for the miserable and a Grand Canyon of grace for the guilty! He will always be the only source of salvation, strength, significance, satisfaction and security.  When we get to the place where Jesus is all we have, we then find He is all we need!  AM I CONTENT WITH CHRIST? IS MY CONFIDENCE IN HIM?  AM I STAYING CONNECTED TO HIM?
ANSWERS:  JEALOUS, JUST & JESUS

GOD’S REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION IN LIFE
Key Verse: Micah 6:8- “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.”

I Corinthians 16:14- “Do everything in love.”  Galatians 5:13- “Serve one another in love.”  I Peter 4:8- “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”  Is love a priority in your life? Are we patient, kind, unselfish, forgiving, faithful and full of His goodness to others? If not, why not?
3.   DON’T BE BORED, HUMBLY __________WITH THE LORD
The final thing God wants from us is to have a relationship with him! He wants us to walk and talk with him through this life.
Read Genesis 5:21-24, 6:5-9 and James 4:6-10.  Matthew 11:28-30- “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Get away with me and you will recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me-watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn how to live freely and lightly.” ( Message).  We walk humbly with God when we let Him lead us, when we lean on Him and learn from Him. And finally, when we lift Him up!
