THE SAVIOR WHO SEPARATES (Aug 20th)

KEY VERSE: John 7:43- “Thus the people were divided because of Jesus.”

I. THE DIVISION JESUS MAKES

    A. He causes division in ________________.
John 7:1-5, Mark 6:1-5 and Matthew 10:34-39.

Matthew 10:37- “Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.”

    B. He causes division with _______________.

John 7:10-12, 25-31, 40-43, & II Corinthians 6:14-18

Are you unequally yoked with an unbeliever? Should a Christian date or marry an unbeliever? What does light have in common with darkness?

    C. He causes division in the ______________. Revelation 20:11-15

Not only did Jesus divide history with B.C. and A.D., He causes division in the eternal destiny of mankind! Heaven and Hell are real final destinations! Which one are you headed for? We are either in Christ & for Him or we are against Him-there is no middle ground.

II. THE DIFFERENCE JESUS MAKES

     A. He alone makes us ________________.

John 7:37-38- “On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, ‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”

Who or what are you seeking fulfillment from? Is it another person? Pleasure? Position? Popularity? Possessions?

JESUS ALONE CAN SAVE, SANCTIFY, AND SATISFY!
    B. He alone can make us __________________.

John 15:5- “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

People who are fulfilled in Christ are then free to be faithful and fruitful in their service in God’s kingdom.

Are you bearing fruit for God’s glory and the good of others?

Are you maturing in the Lord? A sure sign of this is that we are more like God– giving and forgiving!

Am I more concerned about pleasing God or being accepted by others?

Answers:  FAMILIES, FRIENDS, FUTURE, FULFILLED, & FRUITFUL.

THE GOD WHO SPECIALIZES IN THE IMPOSSIBLE!

TEXT: JOHN 6:1-15 (Aug 13th)

OUR OBSTACLES ARE GOD’S ______________________________.

Luke 18:27— Jesus said “What is impossible with men is possible with God.”

We all are faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossibilities!  Great tests lead to great testimonies! Great trials can lead to great triumphs! If we never had real problems we could never see how wonderfully God can solve them!  How do I view trials and great tests? As obstacles or opportunities?

GOD IS ALREADY ________IT!

John 6:5-6—”Where shall we buy bread that these people may eat? He asked this only to test him, for He already had in mind what He was going to do.”

Do I trust God’s sovereign wisdom over my limited understanding?  Do I believe He has a plan in all of my pain and problems?  Can I trust His heart when I can’t trace His hand?  Can I thank and praise Him in the storm? Praise and thanksgiving prepare the way for God to do mighty things—Psalm 50:23.  Do I believe God’s ways are so much better than mine?  See Proverbs 3:5-6 & Isaiah 42:16, 55:8-9.
GOD’S USES __________________MEANS TO DO EXTRAORDINARY THINGS!

Jeremiah 32:27—”Behold I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?”

See II Chronicles 16:9, Acts 4:13 & I Corinthians 1:26-31.  God used a little boy & his sack lunch to feed thousands of people!  Little becomes much in the Master’s hands! Our availability is more important than our ability.  When God is our all and has our all, no impossibility will be too tall!  Will I offer God my time, talent and treasure so He can do immeasurably more than all I can ask or imagine?
Answers:  OPPORTUNITIES, ON & ORDINARY.

JESUS THE GREAT AND  GRACIOUS HEALER (Aug 6th)

TEXT: JOHN 4:46-5:15

JESUS CHRIST HAS GREAT ____________________FOR HURTING PEOPLE! See also Matthew 9:35-38 & Psalm 139

John  5:6— “When Jesus saw him lying there…”

Jesus really “saw” people. He noticed them and their needs.

He sees the individual. He had great concern for Nicodemus, the woman at the well, the Royal official and his son, a man who was an invalid for 38 years and He has great concern for  you and me.  Do we see others and ourselves the way Christ does?

JESUS CHRIST CAN _______________ANY CONDITION!

Psalm 77:14— “You are the God who performs miracles; You display your power among the peoples.”  Hebrews `13:8— “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

See Matthew 12:15-21, 28:18-20, Mark 9:23-24 & Romans 7:15-24

Jesus has all authority in Heaven and earth to forgive, free, heal and help people.  No situation is hopeless with our great God of hope! Is there anything too hard for the Lord? Cf. Genesis 18:14 & Jeremiah 32:27

JESUS CHRIST HAS a _________________________QUESTION FOR ALL OF US ”DO YOU WANT TO GET WELL?”

John  4:50— “Jesus replied, ‘You may go. Your son will live.’ The man took Jesus at His word and departed.”

Hebrews 11:6— “Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”

Do I really want to change? Do I believe Christ over everyone and everything?  Will I stop making excuses? Will I stop blaming others? Will I take Christ at His word?  Do I believe Christ still has power to do what He says?

CLOSING QUOTE:  Albert Ribourg said “Lack of faith in God is the source of most of society’s troubles.”

Answers: CONCERN, CURE & CHALLENGING.

Jesus alone  offers love that will last! (July 30th)

TEXT: JOHN CHAPTER 4
I.   JESUS LOVES THE OUTCAST– JOHN 4:1-9
      A. She was the wrong ___________.

John 4:9- “The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans)

Romans 10:12, Galatians 3:28 & James 2:1-5

      B. She had a bad _______________________. Verses 16-18

I Timothy 1:15- “Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners-of whom I am the worst.” cf. Matthew 9:9-12, I Corinthians 1:26-30.

Someone said, “Jesus Christ will receive the devil’s castaways!”

      C. She experienced horrible ____________________.

Divorce in the Jewish-Samaritan culture could only be initiated by the husband, who had to state publicly that his wife was unclean, unlovable or incapable of fulfilling her wifely duties. Divorce

therefore shamed a woman. This woman experienced it five-fold!

II.   JESUS MAKES AN OUTSTANDING OFFER– VERSES 10-14

      A. He alone offers us a ____________________love.

Psalm 90:14- “Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.”

God’s love alone can truly satisfy. He alone can love us unconditionally, unselfishly, and eternally! See Romans 8:35-38

      B. He alone offers us a ________________love! Verse 42.

Romans 5:6,8- “You see, at just the right time, when we were powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Titus 3:3-5 and Psalm 86:13-15.

The love of other people is significant to us, but only the love of Christ can save us! His love alone is forgiving and fulfilling!

      C. He alone offers us a love worth _______________.

Verses 28-42

John 4:39- “Many of the Samaritans believed in him because of the woman’s testimony.”

Isn’t this love worth sharing with lost and lonely souls all around us? See Matthew 9:35-37.

Answers:  RACE, REPUTATION, REJECTION, SATISFYING, SAVING, & SHARING.

GOD WANTS MORE THAN RELIGION! (July 23rd)
TEXT: JOHN CHAPTER 3

1.   GOD WANTS MORE THAN RELIGION, HE WANTS A ______________________________WITH US.

John 3:1-10, Genesis 3:8-9, Philippians 3:1-10 & Revelation 3:20

Jeremiah 9:23-24- “This is what the Lord says: Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me.”

I may know a lot about God, but do I really know him in a personal and intimate way? I may talk a good talk, but do I have a walk?

2.   GOD WANTS MORE THAN RELIGION, HE WANTS   _________________________.
See John 3:3-7 and Ephesians 2:1-10.

II Corinthians 5:17- “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”

GOD WANTS MORE THAN EDUCATION OR REFORMATION, HE WANTS REGENERATION! See I Corinthians 2:9-14.  Are you tired of trying to live the Christian life? Why not let Christ live His life through you? See Galatians 2:20, 5:16,22-23

3.   GOD WANTS MORE THAN RELIGION, HE WANTS US TO RECEIVE CHRIST AND RELY ON HIM AS THE ONLY SUFFICIENT _______________OF OUR LIFE!
See  John 3:3,13-18.

John 1:12- “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”  Luke 6:46- “Why do you call me Lord, Lord, and do not do what I say?” Who are you trusting– Christ or yourself? Who is calling the shots in your life-Christ or yourself? Does the King have His rightful place?

4.   GOD ULTIMATELY REJECTS THOSE WHO ___________TO RECEIVE HIM AS SAVIOR AND LORD. See verses 18-20.

John 3:36- “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.” cf.  Matthew 7:21-23 and II Thessalonians 1:8-10.  It is Heaven or Hell, light or darkness, fruitfulness or frustration, Christ or chaos! What will I choose?

Answers:  RELATIONSHIP, REBIRTH, RULER, & REFUSE.

GOD’S GRACE IS TENDER & TRANSFORMING! (June 2nd)
TEXT: JOHN 2:1-11

JESUS SHOWED MIRACULOUS GRACE IS NEEDED IN OUR  _________________________!

Hebrews 13:4— “Marriage should be honored by all..”

Psalm 127:1— “Unless the Lord builds the house they labor in vain who build it.”

Isn’t it insightful and inspirational that our Lord performed His first miracle at a wedding? What does that say about His view on marriage?

Do we believe He still can do miracles in marriages today?

We should pray that our nation learns how to honor marriage!

JESUS SHOWS HIS GLORY & GRACE AT JUST THE RIGHT _____________________.

John 2:4— “My time has not yet come.”

Ecclesiastes 3:11— “He has made everything beautiful in its time.”

We cannot manufacture or manipulate God & His grace. It is His grace and He dispenses it always on His timetable!

To run out of food or wine was an insult. Hospitality in the culture of Jesus’ day was considered a sacred duty. Are we hospitable people? If not why not?

This could have been a terrible embarrassment and even a legal problem for the couple, yet Jesus showered His grace on them in just the nick of time! See Hebrews 4:14-16.

THE GRACIOUS PRESENCE & POWER OF JESUS  _________________ALL THE DIFFERENCE!

John 15:5— “Apart from me you can do nothing.”

Genesis 28:16, Psalm 16:8, Proverbs 3:5-6 & John 14:15,21

What if Christ had not been invited to this wedding?

What if the servants had not done what Jesus asked them to do?

Jesus in His amazing grace can turn messy and mundane things into miraculous things.

Jesus can still save the best for the last in our lives!

Where do I need His gracious, tender & transforming touch?

Answers:  MARRIAGES, MOMENT & MAKES.
