TRAIN THAT TONGUE! (Saturday Oct 20th)
 1. The Power Of The Tongue And Our Problem With It
   A.  Our tongue is ___________ but it holds tremendous power- James 3:1-5
Proverbs 18:21- “The tongue has the power of life and death…”  With our words we can bring life or death, blessing or cursing.  With our tongues we can praise our God and yet put down others.
   B.  It is a terrible little tyrant who cannot humanly be_________________.
James 3:7-8- “All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.”  It brings trouble in many ways and often trips us up in our walk with God- Proverbs 18:6-7 and James 3:3-6,
 2. The Purpose And Prayer For Our Tongue
   A. First, we need a________________tongue.
Proverbs 12:22- The Lord detests (hates) lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.”  Proverbs 19:5,9, John 8:31-32, 44 & Ephesians 4:15.  Do I speak the truth in love? Do I believe exaggeration is lying as well?
   B.  Second, we need a helpful _________________tongue.
Proverbs 12:18— “Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”  Proverbs 10:21, 12:25,15:1,23, 16:24 & Ephesians 4:29.  Do I treasure or trash others with my words? Do I really understand the power of encouragement?
   C. Third, we need to learn to ____________our tongues more.
James 1:26— “If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight reign on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.”  Proverbs 10:19, 11:12-13, 17:27-28 & James 1:19 Washington Irving said, “The tongue is the only tool that grows sharper with constant use.”
D. Finally, we need to use our head and ask God to change  our____________________.  See James 1:19, 3:9-12
Psalm 19:14— “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.” (NKJV)   Proverbs 15:28, 18:13 & Matthew 12:33-37.  Do I think before I speak? Do I ever ask the Lord to change my heart or to give me His heart for others?  My speech is a good gauge for the condition of my heart. The mouth reveals what the heart conceals.
ANSWERS: TINY, TAMED, HONEST, HEALING, HOLD, & HEART

WHAT’S YOUR STORY? (Sunday Oct 21st)
 Text: Acts 22 & 26
1.  BE ______________AS YOU SHARE YOUR TESTIMONY.  I Timothy 1:15- “Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance; Christ Jesus came into the
world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.”
Acts 22:1-18, I Corinthians 15:9-10 & I Timothy 1:12-16.  Don’t be intimidated by the testimony of others. Your story is also for His glory. It is not about us-avoid an air of superiority.
 2.  BE _________________ABOUT YOUR STUGGLES.  John 4:28-30,39, Acts 26:1-18 & Philippians 3:1-10
Vulnerability will attract others to the Savior.  A Nashville elevator operator said to another person “I am just a nobody telling everybody about somebody who can save anybody.”
3. THE GOAL IS TO OFFER _______________AND HEALING TO HURTING PEOPLE.
Colossians 1:27- “God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
People need hope in order to cope. We need faith in the future to have power in the present. God is a God of hope and the gospel is the greatest news of all—forgiveness, a fulfilling life and a fantastic future in heaven!
 4.  STICK TO THE _______________OF THE MATTER WHEN SHARING YOUR TESTIMONY.
II Corinthians 5:17- “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.”
There are three parts to your story:  YOUR LIFE BEFORE CHRIST, HOW YOU CAME TO CHRIST, WHAT DIFFERENCE CHRIST HAS MADE
Bill Hybels in his book “Just Walk Across The Room” said, “The vast majority of faith stories I hear are way too long.  Keep your story brief and allow your listener the chance to ask a few following questions. Leave them wanting more.”

ANSWERS:  HUMBLE, HONEST, HOPE & HEART

IS MY FAITH DEAD OR ALIVE? (Sat Oct 13th)
TEXT: James 2:14-26
1. WE ARE SAVED BY FAITH ______________, BUT SAVING FAITH IS NEVER ALONE.
James 2:24- “You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.”
Ephesians 2:8-9- “For it is by grace you have been saved through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works so no one can boast.”  See II Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 2:10 & James 2:14-19.  True saving faith is more than mere mental assent; it is confidence in God that affects all our attitudes & actions.
2. TRUE SAVING FAITH ________________OTHERS IN A POWERFUL WAY—James 2:20-26
James 2:18- “Someone will say, You have faith; I have deeds. Show me your faith without your deeds, and I will show my faith by what I do.”  True faith will inspire others to have confidence in God and be committed to Him. It blesses many others in our sphere of influence. True faith is contagious!  Can those nearest and dearest to me see my faith in action? Are they encouraged to love & trust God because of seeing my faith? See Matthew 5:16
3. TRUE SAVING FAITH MAKES US AWARE OF GOD AND BETTER ____________WITH HIM.
James 2:23- “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called ‘God’s friend’.” See John 15:13-16 & James 4:4-8.  God has chosen to be our closest friend, have we received and reciprocated that friendship?  How can I be a better friend to Jesus Christ? Do I spend time with Him? Do I love what He loves and hate what He hates?  Are there any secrets I am keeping from my best friend?  In Jeremiah 30:21 our great and gracious God asks “Who will devote himself to be close to me?

ANSWERS: ALONE, AFFECTS, & ACQUAINTED

BEING PATIENT, PREPARED & PRECISE IN SHARING OUR FAITH—ACTS 17 (Sun Oct 14th)
1. WHEN SHARING OUR FAITH WE MUST LEARN TO BE PATIENT AND _____________________. Acts 14:1-6, 17:1-6
Galatians 6:9- “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Winning souls is a lot like farming and fishing!  Research shows that 90% of believers do not actively share their faith. Do you have a burden for the lost?
2.  WHEN SHARING OUR FAITH WE MUST BE________________& FIND A POINT OF CONNECTION.  See Acts 17:16-34.
II Timothy 2:24-25- “And the Lord’s servant must not quarrel:  instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance.”  We must find a common point of interest and build the bridge of faith from there— see I Corinthians 9:19-23
3. WHEN SHARING OUR FAITH WE MUST LEARN THE POWER OF __________COMES FROM SHARING THE TRUTH!  See Acts 17:2, 10-13, 18:1-11, Romans 10:17 & II Timothy 3:15-17
Hebrews 4:12- “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”  Books and quotes can inform, but only the Word of God can transform! The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God!
4.   WHEN SHARING OUR FAITH WE MUST LEARN TO BE PREPARED AND __________________ABOUT THE GOSPEL.
I Peter 3:15- “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” See I Corinthians 1:17-2:2, 15:1-4 & Colossians 4:2-6
Point people to Christ. Stay centered on the cross. Proclaim that Jesus is alive and can change anyone who believes in him.

GOD’S ROYAL ROAD FOR RELATIONSHIPS (Saturday Oct 6th)
TEXT: JAMES 2:1-13 OUR VIEW OF CHRIST CAN GREATLY _____________HOW WE VIEW AND TREAT OTHERS.
James 2:1- “My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don’t show
favoritism.” John 15:12, Romans 15:7, Ephesians 5:1-12, 22-25, 6:1-4.  When we grasp how good God
is and who we are in Him, it dramatically changes our relationships with others.  Do we realize that
how we treat others is how we are treating the Lord Jesus Christ? Matthew 25:31-46
WHEN WE ARE PARTIAL & PREJUDICED WE __________THOSE WHO GOD CREATED & SHED HIS BLOOD FOR.  Genesis 1:27, Psalm 139:13-16, John 3:16, & James 3:9-10
We slap our Creator and Savior’s face when we treat lightly those who are very dear to His heart.
Everyone, no matter what race, creed, size or shape is a human being made in the likeness of God
almighty.
WE MUST REMEMBER THE MOST __________________ROYAL LAW OF THE KINGDOM.
James 2:8- “If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself,’ you are doing right.”
I Corinthians 13 & Romans 13:8-14.  LIFE-LOVE= NOTHING!  Am I taking this command seriously in
my everyday life?
WE WILL _____________GOD’S JUDGMENT IF WE DON’T TAKE GOD’S ROYAL ROAD OF RELATIONSHIPS.  James 2:9-13 & Matthew 7:1-4,12
We will reap what we sow! Am I treating all of my loves ones fairly or do I favor some over the others?
Do I treat certain people differently based on race, beliefs, looks or social status?  Do I really see others through God’s eyes of compassion?

ANSWERS: IMPACT, INSULT, IMPORTANT, & INCUR

WHAT AMAZES YOU? (Sunday Oct 7th)
KEY VERSE: Acts 20:32— “Now I commit you to God and the word of His grace which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.”
 1.   MANY PEOPLE HAVE DIFFICULTY _________________GRACE.
Read Acts 15:1-5, Luke 18:9-14 & Galatians 2
We often choose rules over relationship, manipulation over mercy, and guilt over grace!
Every religion of man is based upon performance and karma.
God saves us by grace alone through faith in what Christ has done not what we can or should do—Acts 15:11 & Ephesians 2:1-9.
2.   GOD WANTS HIS PEOPLE TO REALLY KNOW, _____________IN AND SHOW HIS GRACE.
II Corinthians 8:9— “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor that you through His poverty might become rich.”  Have I tasted and trusted God’s amazing grace for myself?  See Psalm 34:8 & I Peter 2:1-3 & II Peter 3:18.  Titus 2:11-12- “For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in the present age.”  The only way we can thrive in life is to grow in grace! It saves us, sanctifies and strengthens our pace in this amazing race.  Do I share & shower His grace on others? Colossians 4:5-6
3.   GOD WANTS US TO REST IN THE ____________OF HIS GRACE.
I Peter 5:8-11, II Corinthians 12:9-10 & Philippians 1:6
It is not our grip on Christ that matters but His eternal and gracious grip on us that we can find peace in. No one or no thing can ever separate us from His amazing love & grace!!!
ANSWERS:  GRASPING, GROW, & GRIP

THIS IS ONLY A TRAP! (Sat Sep 29th)  TEXT: JAMES 1:13-27
1. OUR FATHER IS NOT SEEKING TO TRAP US, IT IS EITHER OUR _____________OR OUR # 1 FOE—SATAN.
James 1:13— “When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone.” Cf. verses 14-15 with Genesis 3:1-6, 13 & I Peter 5:8.  Our flesh is fickle and Satan is a master at manipulation!
2. TEMPTATION IS A TRICK TO GET US TO ______________A GOD-GIVEN DESIRE IN A GOD FORBIDDEN WAY. Matthew 4:1-11.
Temptation tries to get us to seek pleasure outside of God’s permissible boundaries. It operates in the forbidden zone!
3. WE MUST LEARN TO FEED ON AND ______________THE WORD OF GOD.— James 1:21-25
James 1:22— “Do not merely listen to the word and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”  God’s Word is food that fuels our faith and a wonderful weapon to use against all our foes—Ephesians 6:17, II Peter 1:3-4—Am I making good use of this valuable tool?
4. WE MUST LEARN TO __________FROM TEMPTATION.
Genesis 39:1-12 & I Corinthians 6:18, I Thessalonians 5:22.  Run from temptation and do not leave a forwarding address!  If you toy with temptation you will trip every time!!
5. WE MUST SEEK OUR FATHER’S FACE AND ___________HIS WAY OF ESCAPE.
I Corinthians 10:13— “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”  Jude 24-25 & Psalm 37:4.  We choose either to be victims or victors! When we learn to love God more than temptation it will lose its appeal on us.
