WE FACE A LIFE- LONG BATTLE! (Sat June 6th)
ROMANS 7
1.  SIN IS A MORE _________________PROBLEM WITH ALL OF US THAN WE REALIZE.  See Romans 7:1-14
·  Jeremiah 17:9- “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked, who can know it?  See also Mark 7:21-23, Ecclesiastes 9:3, I Timothy 1:15, & James 3:2
·  Sin dishonors our Awesome God and Creator. It is a slap in the face to His rightful and loving authority. It is hard-hearted ungratefulness!
·  Sin deceives us and hardens our hearts to God and others. All we need to do is look in the mirror and watch a little TV to see the reality of mankind’s total depravity!
·  No matter how hard we may try, we will never defeat this enemy within in our own strength. The words “I, me, myself are used over 30 times in Romans 7!
·  The Greek word “Sarx” for flesh or sinful nature is used 147 times in the New Testament.
2.      WHAT GOD IS REALLY AFTER IS OUR TOTAL AND COMPLETE_________________
See Romans 7:15-23
·  Romans 7:24-25- “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!”  See also Romans 12:1-2,14:7-9, and II Chronicles 16:9
·  God desires and so richly deserves our unconditional surrender on a daily basis! He is such a great, awesome, holy, merciful, loving and gracious Lord, Savior and Shepherd. Just ponder and think of who He really is and all He has done for us!
·  We can only truly live dynamic and impactful lives when we are fully surrendered.
·  Henry Drummond said “Sin is a ceaseless, undying power in our life. A ceaseless undying power must come against it. And there is only one such power in the universe- only One, which has a chance against sin: The power of the living Christ.”

DEAD TO SIN, BUT ALIVE TO GOD IN CHRIST JESUS!
(May 23rd) Romans 6:1-14
1.  GOD SAYS WE ARE _______________TO SIN’S POWER THROUGH CHRIST
  • Romans verses 1-11.  Romans 6:6- “For we know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body ruled by sin might be rendered powerless so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin.”
  • We are no longer answerable to sin; it has no authority to order us around. Sin may put on airs of still sitting upon the throne of our lives, but the truth is that God has dethroned this despot and stripped him of his many powers.
  • This is biblical fact and is not based on our feelings!
2.  GOD SAYS WE ARE NO LONGER ___________________TO THE LAW, BUT TO HIS GREAT GRACE!
  • Romans 6:14- “For sin shall not rule over you, because you are not under the law but under grace.”
  • See Titus 2:11-14. God’s amazing grace is the greatest teacher and liberator for our souls. “Oh to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be! Let Thy goodness, like a fetter bind my wandering heart to Thee.” Verse 3 from the Hymn “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing.”
  • Following the law leads to legalism and bondage, trusting Christ and His great work of grace leads to real liberty and joy.
3.  NOW, WE NEED TO ______________YIELD OUR LIVES TO OUR SAVIOR NOT SIN
  • Romans verses 12-13.  Galatians 2:20- “For I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
  • Following Jesus is a moment by moment and day by day commitment. See Joshua 24:15 and Luke 9:23-24.
  • We are now free indeed, no longer bound by sin, why we would we ever want to live under its cruel and wicked domination again?
  • “To resolve our sin issues, we must begin by trusting who God says we are. Moral striving to become godly only keeps us slaves to sin. Grace teaches us to trust that God can handle our sin and only God.” From the book “True Faced”
ANSWERS: DEAD, DEBTORS, & DAILY.

GOD’S REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION IN LIFE
Key Verse: Micah 6:8- “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (May 17)

  • What does the Lord require of us?
First and foremost, to act justly. To live right in a world that has mostly gone wrong!

We are to think right, speak right, live right, and be right!  Jesus Christ died & rose again for us to put us into right standing with God!See Romans 3:10-12, 21-26, II Corinthians 5:21
2.   BE FILLED WITH _______________FROM GOD ABOVE.
The next thing God wants from us is to live a life filled with love.  We are to “love mercy.”

  • Is love a priority in your life? Are we patient, kind, unselfish, forgiving, faithful and full of His goodness to others? If not, why not?
3 DON’T BE BORED, HUMBLY _____________WITH THE LORD.
The final thing God wants from us is to have a relationship with him! He wants us to walk and talk with Him through this life.  See Genesis 5:21-24, 6:5-9 and James 4:6-10.
Matthew 11:28-30- “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Get away with me and you will recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me-watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn how to live freely and lightly.” (The Message)

We walk humbly with God when we let Him lead us, when we lean on Him and learn from Him. And finally, when we lift Him up!

  • Thomas A Kempis said, “The humbler a person is in himself, the more obedient toward God, the wiser will he be in all things, and the more shall his soul be at peace.”
